Shrimp chips are an ubiquitous flavor of east Asian snacks. They’re everywhere. Calbee’s brand of shrimp chips are no different than any other brand. They all just taste the same. Furthermore, they are all equally tasty.
For those that have never had shrimp chips, you should know that they don’t really taste like shrimp. It’s a savory taste, but I’d equate them more to the flavor of monosodium glutamate (MSG) rather than any kind of seafood. Actually, I’m not sure there’s even an MSG in this. It’s just very savory.
This is simply a good bag of average salt and vinegar flavored potato chips. Kettle chips are supposedly crunchier than normal chips, but I couldn’t tell the difference between this and a bag of Wise potato chips. In fact, I couldn’t taste any difference between this bag of chips and salt and vinegar chips from any other brand. These chips are satisfactorily average.
I had had a bag of original dipsy doodles and theses are not great. I’ve had the barbecue flavor and that was fine, but the plain flavor is just lackluster. You really get the sense that you’re eating bland, crunchy, grounded up corn. I recommend avoiding these and opting for one of the flavored options.
