I came here with some friends for New Years and was very impressed. This place is great, as is the sort of hidden bar/speakeasy upstairs.

Restaurant Review: Izakaya Juraku

Score: 7/10

Izakaya Juraku is a comfortable bar and restaurant that serves some low to middle priced Japanese food. It’s bar food.

I came here during happy hour and ordered a bunch of food from the happy hour menu. I got some gyoza for $3, the karage for $5 and a beef dish that came with a salad for $5. All of it was pretty good.

Service was good.

Overall, this is a really comfortable, laid back place to hang out with your friends. Additionally, they had One Piece playing on a projector, which was fun.

Bar Review: The Distillery

Came here for the bar. There’s a restaurant in the back, but I don’t know anything about that. I ordered one of their signature cocktails which was a passion fruit tea thing for about fifteen dollars. It was fine. Service was fine.

Restaurant Review: The Astorian

Details: Located at 28-50 31st St, Astoria, NY 11102. Official site is

Score: 6.8/10

The Astorian is a surprisingly large bar in Astoria. This place is huge. There’s tons of seating in the back in addition to the bar in the front. Which is odd considering that there were only three people watching the customers. The place seemed understaffed.

Came here on a weekday night with some friends. Ordered the Astorian burger, which was a decent enough burger, though a little pricey at $16 for such an ordinary burger. It was served on a cutting board, which was annoying as fries kept falling off the thing. Just use plates please.

Overall, a decent place for drinks and some bar food.
