Despite the long name, Entenmann’s Minis Fudge Iced Golden Cakes is basically a Twinkie with no cream filling, but topped with chocolate frosting. The dough portion tastes exactly like a Twinkie. The frosting is your average chocolate frosting. If you like Twinkies, you’ll probably like this. Again, there’s no cream filling, just chocolate frosting on top.
While Financier probably isn’t the home of the best cakes in New York City, I can safely say that I have never had anything from Financier that I did not like. To me, Financier is an almost solid choice for quality cakes or baked goods. Most people I’ve discussed Financier with generally feel the same. In fact, anytime a cake is required at my workplace, the cake is usually from Financier.
My most recent trip to Financier which triggered this review was to the one in Grand Central Station. They have a number of locations around the city, generally around midtown east and the financial district.
You can order whole cakes or just some small pastries. This time, I purchased a raspberry passion macaroon for $3 and a small Napoleon (puff pastry, pastry cream, framboise liquor covered with fondant or apricot glaze) for $5. They were both really good.
If you need to get a cake or a small pastry to go, you can’t go wrong with Financier Patisserie.
