Restaurant Review: The Thirsty Koala

The Thirsty Koala holds itself out as an Australian restaurant. As a practical matter, Australian food is pretty much similar to that of American food. The only real difference is that they have a kangaroo burger on the menu.

I thought about getting the kangaroo burger, but some one else ordered it so I could conveniently try it out. Kangaroo is just drier beef for those curious.

I ordered the Australian burger with the Lot (pastured Niman Ranch beef, , served with lettuce, sliced tomato, sliced red onion, sunny side up egg, pickled beetroot, grilled pineapple, Canadian bacon, blistered cippolioni, kimchi aioli) which cost around $17.50 I think. It was a pretty good burger. It comes with fries or a salad.

Service was okay. The interior is dimly lit, but fine.

Overall, a decent place to grab a sit down dinner.

Restaurant Review: The Astorian

The Astorian is a surprisingly large bar in Astoria. This place is huge. There’s tons of seating in the back in addition to the bar in the front. Which is odd considering that there were only three people watching the customers. The place seemed understaffed.

Came here on a weekday night with some friends. Ordered the Astorian burger, which was a decent enough burger, though a little pricey at $16 for such an ordinary burger. It was served on a cutting board, which was annoying as fries kept falling off the thing. Just use plates please.

Overall, a decent place for drinks and some bar food.

Uncle Jack’s Meat House is a somewhat upscale steak house in Astoria, though it does have other locations. I came here for dinner on New Year’s and had a great time.
