If you’re looking to buy cheap, individually packaged, overly processed American cheese meant for sandwiches, then you must buy Kraft Singles. You simply have no choice. I tried almost every other brand at the supermarket because they are cheaper, but they all tasted worse in every way.
Kraft Singles has somehow figured out the balance between cheap and tolerably overly processed cheese. The taste is just good enough for someone to tolerate. In fact, I often times just take out a slice and eat it. It’s something I’ve done since I was a kid.
What’s also cool is how the price is printed directly on the packaging, preventing retailers from trying to deceptively raise the price beyond what was intended by the producer. Most recently, that price was $3.89, which isn’t bad compared to competing products.
Make no mistake, higher quality cheeses will undoubtedly taste better. But if you’re looking for the cheapest possible option that still tastes all right, Kraft branded single slice American cheese is the best possible option. Additionally, Kraft singles melt really well and are perfect for grilled cheese sandwiches.
