G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a bad movie. However, sometimes you’re just in the mood for a fluff action movie. As I am currently hiding indoors because of coronavirus, I was in the exact right mood for this movie.

The Rise of Cobra is about an elite, international military unit — the Joe’s — that fights international bad guys. When a weapon of mass destruction is stolen, it’s up to the Joe’s to get it back and beat the bad guys.

The acting in this movie is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. It’s bad. It’s almost as if they were fed their lines about thirty seconds before the cameras started rolling. On the other hand, the actors in this film are noticeably attractive. Most movies have attractive casts because film makers know that people like looking at attractive people. Duh. But in this movie, the juxtaposition of attractive people with such low acting talent makes the incongruence extra noticeable.

The action is pretty good. There’s a lot of computer generated special effects. I found it mostly entertaining. I especially loved the ninja stuff. That they managed to put ninjas into a movie about military, guns and explosions is particularly fascinating. Ninjas somehow always seem cool.

Overall, this was a good movie for a boring Sunday afternoon. With that said, I do not recommend this movie to anyone unless they are absolutely bored.
