Video Game Review: The Stanley Parable

Details: Spent about forty minutes playing through it. Official site is

Score: 7/10

The primary enjoyment you derive from this game is largely from being constantly surprised by what it’s doing, which makes it difficult to talk about. I’ll try to talk about the things I can talk about while avoiding the enjoyable stuff.

The Stanley Parable is what is colloquially known as a “walking simulator.” You don’t fight or solve puzzles or anything. You simply walk through an environment. Periodically, there will be a decision to make about which path you’d prefer to take, but generally, you just keep walking.

One of the most interesting things about this game is the dynamic narration. Depending on where you go and what you do, the narrator will change what he says. Often times the narration is funny in how pithy it is. Other times, the narration is confusing. Many times the narration can be confusing.

Overall, I enjoyed my short time with this game. It is certainly an artistic game that tries to show the player something new. I can’t think another game like this. It’s certainly worth a play through if you’re interest in something different from the other mainstream video games out there.
