Terminator: Dark Fate has some of the best action set pieces I’ve ever scene. It’s unfortunate that the story was such trash and continues the pattern of Terminator movies with trash stories.
Like in every Terminator movie, a killer robot comes back from the future and our protagonists need to fend it off.
The big draw of this movie is the return of Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger, though Arnold to a lesser degree since he’s returned to the franchise a few times before. The narrative reasons why Linda comes back is tolerable, but still feels a little roped in. The excuse why they brought Arnold back feels really roped in. This movie basically ignores any semblance of coherence with the past Terminator movies and just does its own thing.
The best parts of this movie are the action scenes. They are frenetic, well choreographed and exciting. The action scenes alone make this movie worth watching. The return of Hamilton and Arnold were kind of pointless.
Overall, this was a fun movie if you can ignore the story and how it doesn’t connect to the prior Terminator films. If you can’t ignore the past films, then you will not enjoy this movie. It tries to reminisce about Terminator 2, but it does a real lousy job trying to retcon those past events into the events of this movie.
