Details: Played on the 3DS. Around five hours to beat the main game, around eleven hours for the secret levels, and around twenty hours to complete everything according to howlongtobeat.com. More information can be found at https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/new-super-mario-bros-2-3ds/
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a standard two dimensional side scroller. It doesn’t add anything new like in Super Mario Odyssey. It just plays like a game from the 1990’s, except with slightly better visuals.
Additionally, Gold Edition simply means it was bundled with all additional downloadable content into on purchasable package.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 has no real story except that Bowser kidnaps the princess again and you need to get her back. That means going through dozens of unrelated levels in order to fight and beat Bowser.
The game is not hard compared to the other Mario games that have come before and that have come out recently. There’s no three dimensional movement, just two dimensional side scrolling. Given that all the more recent Mario games are three dimensional, this game feels simplistic and out of date.
As with all Mario games, there are some secrets, but fewer than in other games. The game is relatively short.
Visually, the game isn’t bad to look at. It is still a 3DS game, which means it doesn’t look great and looks pixelated because all games on the 3DS look this way.
The music is fantastic.
Overall, this is a fun, mediocre game. It doesn’t push the franchise or genre forward in any way. It also feels like this game was designed for children, rather than adults.
