Bubble Tea Review: Mi Tea

Mi Tea is one of many new relatively higher quality bubble tea places that are opening around downtown Flushing. The most memorable thing about this place is that it is shares space with a sit down cafe that serves products that have durian… lots of durian.

For those who don’t know, durian is a famously pungent fruit from southeast Asia. Depending on the breed, the fruit can smell mildly bad to bag-of-wet-garbage-after-a-heavy-rain bad. It’s powerful. Upscale hotels in southeast Asia ban customers from eating the stuff in the hotel. It’s that bad.

So when I came here, the first thing I noticed was a face full of durian stank. I’ve experienced worse durian stank, but it was bad. People were holding their faces.

In any case, I ordered a medium cheese-covered formosa black tea for a little under five dollars after tax. It was pretty good and you could taste that it was a slightly higher quality drink than cheaper places that sealed their drinks with a melted plastic wrapper rather than that cool new bubble tea top where you can both sip from the drink and use a straw at the same time.

Overall, the place was decent. The only issue here is that durian stank.
