The LEGO Movie 2 is only slightly less good than the first LEGO movie. It maintains the humor and small bit of heart that made the first one so entertaining.
The movie picks up right after the end of the last movie. The kid’s younger sister joins the fun and the world turns into an apocalyptic wasteland. An alien arrives and kidnaps Emmett’s friends. Now Emmett must go into space and rescue his friends from the area of space governed by the kid’s sister.
It’s a wacky, crazy story. Just keep in mind that at the crux of it, this is a story about two children making things up and playing with LEGO’s. Accordingly, you’re going to get a crazy story that seems like two kids are making it up as they play along.
The biggest draw of this movie is the jokes. There are a lot of them and they come fast and furious. Many of the jokes break the fourth wall. Many jokes make references to various other intellectual properties and even get the actors from those properties to play guest roles. It’s a lot of fun.
I will say that 3D was a waste of money. I don’t recommend it.
Overall, this is a light, fun movie for adults and kids. There are some good, wholesome messages, but make no mistake, this is movie is a comedy first.
