I live in New York City and as such, I often eat at restaurants that are more exotic, ethnic, or trendy. Donovan’s is not that kind of restaurant. Donovan’s is the kind of slightly upscale restaurant you’d expect to find in Midwest America. The vast majority of the people who come here are middle-aged, white, and probably voted for Trump. The food was all right.
I ordered the Donovan’s Chicken Pot Pie (cost $20) mostly because they put their name on it. Our table also split an order of the spinach and artichoke dip (cost $12).
Everything was fine. The pot pie was huge, but good. Nothing special, just your average pot pie. The spinach and artichoke dip was really good, but I always love spinach and artichoke dip and will demolish it even if it’s from Appelbee’s. I will say that I really enjoyed their tortilla chips which they seem to make in house. The complimentary bread was also pretty good.
Service was really nice. The interior was also comfortable. It’s a somewhat loud, energetic place despite the older crowd.
Overall, this was a pretty good place that I would likely never suggest coming back to. However, I would gladly come back if someone else suggested it. It’s all right, but it’s just decently made American cuisine, which isn’t bad. It’s just stuff I’ve had before and have had with better quality. Usually when I eat, I want either something new and amazing or something cheap as hell. This place falls in the middle where it’s generally around thirty dollars per person here and the food quality is slightly better than average, so it’s not a place I’d go to of my own volition.
