Sonic is a fast food restaurant known mostly for being one of the few places where you can drive in and waiters and waitresses come up to your car and serve you. After many years of hearing how great Sonic is, a Sonic has finally opened up a location in New York City. Unfortunately, this location is small and has no drive-in. The only thing I can really judge here is the food.
Generally, Sonic’s food is about the same as any other fast food place. They have burgers, fries and shakes. What separates Sonic from those other places is the specials they have at certain times. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM they have happy hour, where drinks are half off (excluding milk shakes) and corn dogs are only a dollar. If you come before 10:00 AM, all specialty drinks are half off I think.
I’ve tried their hot dogs, burgers, their limeade slushy, a strawberry milkshake, and their corn dogs. All of it’s pretty good for fast food. The milk shake was average. The signature limeade was not better than the Coca-Cola slushy from Seven Eleven. Burgers are okay. The hot dogs are pretty good, too. Prices for each item were around three dollars or less. So were the drinks depending on the size.
The space is small, but I always got a seat for whatever reason. Since this place recently opened, service was really good. Everyone was really nice. I wonder how long that will last as time goes on.
Overall, Sonic is a good place to visit from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Unfortunately, without the novelty of a drive-in, Sonic is just another average fast food restaurant.
