Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken is essentially hipster fried chicken. It’s a place whose condiments include chipotle honey and wasabi honey. It’s very trendy.
I ordered the two piece meal which came with a leg, thigh, a small cup of cole slaw and a huge amount of french fries for about twelve dollars after tax.
The chicken was pretty good. The thing with deep fried foods is that there is an absolute ceiling to how good food can taste. It all just ends up greasy and crunchy. The chicken here was seasoned well, but it’s still just fried chicken. The fries were substantial… but still just fries. For twelve dollars, I expect more.
I will say that they did a great job deboning the thigh. Normally, a thigh piece has two large bones in it. There’s one single bone piece, then there’s this large, flat bone piece with lots of little bones in it. I don’t know how, but Blue Ribbon removed that piece, making the chicken much easier to eat.
I’ve also tried the Blue Ribbon chicken sandwich. It’s just a standard fried chicken breast sandwich that about as good as a Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich. I should mention I don’t love Chick-Fil-A. It costs around nine dollars after tax.
Overall, this place is all right, but when you consider price, Popeyes is easily the superior fried chicken fast food restaurant.
