TV Show Review: The Good Place, Season One and Two

Score: 7.4/10

The Good Place is a clever sitcom that takes place in the afterlife.

The Good Place stars Kristen Bell as Eleanor Shellstrop. Eleanor has just died and entered The Good Place, which is the afterlife where good people go. The Good Place is supposed to be a paradise, pretty much heaven. Bad people go to The Bad Place, where they are tortured for all eternity. However, do to some mishap in the process, Eleanor is a bad person who somehow ended up in The Good Place. Now, Eleanor must figure out some way to stay in The Good Place and prevent anyone from finding out her secret.

I think the first interesting thing about this show is the scenario. Rather than just having a bunch of standalone episodes, there is actually an overarching plot line for audiences to follow. There’s a point to the show. Shows like Seinfeld and Friends have no point. They just exist to manifest sketches and make people laugh. The Good Place however, does have a story to tell and there are some big plot developments as well as character developments in the two season I watched.

The humor is also pretty good. There weren’t many huge laugh out loud moments for me, but most jokes hit.

Overall, this is a great show and ranks up there with shows like Silicon Valley and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Score: 7.4/10
