Modern Szechuan is a cheaply priced Chinese takeout restaurant in Midtown Manhattan. Like most food businesses in the area, they mainly cater to the working crowd at lunch.

The food here isn’t made fresh to order. It’s made and kept warm on a buffet line, cafeteria style. It was fine to me.

The food is okay. I’ve only ever been here for lunch and everything tasted as you’d expect from your average Chinese takeout place. The main draw here is the low prices. You can get a lunch special in the back where you can get an entrée and rice for under ten dollars. They also have another buffet line that charges by the pound rather than by individual serving. I think it’s priced at around seven dollars per pound. The price drops a buck or so lower after around 2:15 PM.

Service was surprisingly nice for a Chinese takeout place. The cashier person I go to has always been noticeably polite and courteous. The interior… not great but adequate for the price of food.

Overall, this is a great place to get lunch at during the work week, especially if you want to spend less than ten dollars for a substantial amount of food.
