The Weekenders was another Saturday morning cartoon made by Disney. It’s pretty much a sitcom involving kids for kids. The style of humor is surprisingly adult though.
The Weekenders is about four kids who hang out on the weekends. Each episode starts on Friday and ends on Sunday.
The subject matter of each episode is on stuff you generally expect twelve year old American kids to deal with. There’s crushes, trying to be cool and other social pressures of being a teenager.
What I like most about this show is the humor. The writing on this show is top notch and while the subject matter is somewhat childish, the manner in which it’s handled is very grown up. It’s as if the cast of Seinfeld were made young and hung out together. The quips come at you fast and furious and are sarcastic and smart.
Overall, this is a very lighthearted and entertaining show. Things never get to dark or dramatic. There is usually a theme or message the show wants to convey, but really it’s all about the jokes. This is a really funny show with an adult sense of humor. If you’re in the mood for a light sitcom about teenagers and their very trivial problems, The Weekenders is a great show to just watch and relax.
