Sugar Freak is a cajun/southern restaurant in Astoria. They serve your classic cajun dishes like seafood boils, jambalaya, and Po’ boys.
The restaurant has a large space with plenty of seats. Even still, Sugar Freak is pretty popular and was pretty packed on a weekend night.
I ordered the holy trinity (sandwich with fried catfish, fried oyster and fried shrimp, cost around sixteen dollars) which comes with some cole slaw and a pickle. It wasn’t great. Almost chipped a tooth on a piece of oyster shell in the sandwich.
Service was fine.
Overall, I probably wouldn’t come back on my own. If someone else suggested it, I’d probably come back and give it another try.
